| Abstract | The cerebrovascular disease, also called cerebrovascular accident or stroke, are all those brain disorders secondary to a vascular disorder, transiently or permanently modifying the functions of a certain region of the brain. It is a medical emergency that requires immediate intervention because the longer the interruption of blood flow lasts, the greater the damage. The delay in the arrival to the emergency services worsens their prognosis, since the opportunity to receive an immediate treatment is lost and thus to be able to survive the sequels. The main reasons for this delay are the lack of knowledge of the symptoms, the refusal to recognize the disease, and the hope that the symptoms will be resolved. Also, its etiology is influenced by the presence of certain risk factors, being responsible for a very important part of cerebrovascular diseases in the general population. For all these reasons, the knowledge of the population about stroke is essential for its prevention and treatment, because if the population in general knows its risk factors, initial clinical manifestations and the behavior to be followed in this type of emergency, it will influence in reducing the impact it produces. |
