THE EFFECTIVENESS OF BRAINSTORMING BY WORDS GUESSING IN READING COMPREHENSION(An Experimental Study at the VIII Grade Students of SMP N 1 Sumbang in Academic Year 2012/2013)

Abstract	This research was aimed at knowing the effectiveness of brainstorming by words guessing in reading comprehension. This research was conducted at SMP N 1 Sumbang in academic year 2012/2013. The experimental research was carried out in two weeks (4-16 February 2013). The total sample of this research was 64 students. The students were divided into classes. The eight grades of B was as the experimental class that was taught with Brainstorming by Words Guessing, and the eighth grades of C was as control class that was taught with conventional method. To get the sample, this research used random sampling technique. In the collecting data, this research used multiple choices test. There were pre-test and post-test. Pre test was given before treatment and post test was given after treatment was done. Based on the result, it can be seen by the result of t-test. It was 2.891 and the t-table at the level significant 0.05 for degree of freedom d.f = 62 (1.670). Then the calculation of t-test with t-table was concluded that t-test was higher than t-table (2.891 > 1.670). It means that there was positive effect in teaching reading comprehension using Brainstorming by Words Guessing to the eight grade students of SMP N 1 Sumbang in academic year 2012/2013 and the hypothesis was acceptable.
