| Abstract | The social and technological developments over the years, coupled with the increased amount of higher education institutions offering undergraduate courses in accounting, become a pressing concern for improving the quality of teaching-learning process of future professionals. Thus, it should be known that, also interfere with this process, the particular characteristics of students' learning, known as Learning Styles, should be considered. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the impact of learning styles on academic performance of undergraduate students in Accounting at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). To this end, we resorted to the Index of Learning Styles Felder Soloman (ILS) applied to 276 students and 13 professors. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) showed that in three of the four dimensions, the Learning Styles of students and teachers together exert significant influence on the performance of students, indicating that certain combinations of styles between teacher and student, indeed, produce more satisfactory results (average scores higher). Finally, it was found that the combination that showed the best result was a active teacher with active student, indicating that students prefer to discuss and question, having a teacher who encourages these characteristics in the classroom, such individuals tend to better understand and retain the information, thus resulting in significantly higher average scores. |
