| Abstract | This paper merges contributions from urban economics and inequality measurement to assess quality of life (QOL) within a given city. The point of view of a city planner is adopted, one in favor of even accessibility to amenities throughout the city. Instead of the average value of amenities computed in the Roback (1982) QOL index, the new index captures the value of its multidimensional "certainty equivalent". This methodology is then applied to derive a QOL index for the city of Milan. |
