Abstract	The article has as main objectives: a) introducing a brief Mercosur´s history, b) analyzing the trade evolution between Venezuela and Mercosur during the period 2004-2014, c) analyzing the agrifood trade between Venezuela and Mercosur using different indicators, and d) finding opportunities and threats for the Venezuelan agrifood sector. It concludes that, from the Venezuelan perspective, there are reasons to believe that it is unlikely that the inclusion of Venezuela as a full member in Mercosur can generate net trade diversion given the high competitiveness of Mercosur´s agrifoodin the world agricultural markets. Venezuelan agrifood chains with low competitiveness with Mercosur´s agrifood imports were identified. However, there are Venezuelan agrifood products with some comparative and competitive advantages in Mercosur´s markets that Venezuela should take advantage. Nevertheless, to achieve a better performance in Mercosur Venezuela must introduce radical changes in its economic policy and its global development strategy.
