| Abstract | This research aimed at knowing if there is a relationship between the use of social networks and the use of hypertext critical reading strategies in undergraduates of a public university from Lima. This thesis followed a non-experimental, descriptive, correlational and cross-sectional design. This study was conducted on 150 freshmen of the Faculty of Economy in the Universidad Nacional Federico Villareal (UNFV) and 2 questionnaires were used for knowing the current level of the corresponding variables and for their subsequent correlation. The first questionnaire was made by the researcher and the second questionnaire, based on a Likert scale and composed 4 components, was designed by Galindo (2014) to know hypertext critical reading strategies. The results showed that there was no relationship between the variable of use of social networks and the variable of use of hypertextual critical reading strategies in freshmen of the Faculty of Economy in the UNFV, and also showed there was no relationship with each of the components. Regarding the variable of use of social networks, 4.7% of these students never used them, 35.3% hardly ever used them, 54% sometimes used them, 5.3% almost always and 0.7% always used them, and more specific information showed that 77.3% of these freshmen logged in Facebook every day, and 55.3% of these last percentage visited it from 2 to 3 a day. Regarding the variable of use of hypertext critical reading strategies, the use of these strategies of 34% of freshmen of the Faculty of Education in the UNFV was regular, 62% was good and 4% was excellent. |
