| Abstract | The goal of this work is to develop an empirical investigation on the pattern of international capital flows, aiming to answer two questions. First, does net capital flows from developed to developing countries ? The empirical evidence presented throughout the paper reveals that the puzzle in the pattern of international capital flows is more severe then the puzzle identified by Lucas (1990), and capitals flows on net terms from developing to developed countries. Second, why capitals do not flow from developed to developing countries ? The empirical evidence presented in this paper show that differences in institutional structures and differences in the stock of human capital among countries, two of the main explanations found by the literature, do not explain the puzzle. |
