| Abstract | RESUMEN: En la medida en la que las traducciones pretenden la reproduccion de la literatura se hacen responsables en gran medida, o bien en una medida aun mayor que los mismos originales de su recepcion y supervivencia. La reproduccion de la literatura proyecta imagenes del autor, de la literatura y del espacio cultural de la obra original que influyen en una colectividad mucho mayor que la de partida y conforma asi la recepcion de una obra, de un autor, de una literatura o de una sociedad en el seno de una cultura extrana. En este contexto reflexionaremos sobre la acogida de la obra de Thomas Mann en su exilio estadounidense, teniendo en cuenta tanto la acogida de sus obras traducidas a lo largo de ese periodo como la calidad de las mismas y las criticas que suscitaron desde una perspectiva diacronica. ABSTRACT: Insofar as any translation intends to reproduce literature, it is largely responsible, or to an even greater extend than (the text of) the source work of its reception and survival. The reproduction of the works of literature projects images of the author, the literature and the cultural space of the source work, influencing on a much larger scale than the starting point and shapes the reception of a literary work, an author, a literature or a society within a foreign culture. In this context, we will reflect on the reception of Thomas Mann s works in America during his exile years by taking into account the reception, the quality and the literary criticism of his translated works from a diachronic perspective.
