| Abstract | The search for new sources of renewable energy is increasingly growing and demanding research to develop highly productive techniques, optimized processes and lower costs for the product is competitive in the marketplace. Thus, the screening of potential microorganisms used for the production of ethanol, biodiesel and biogas is relevant to understand how to obtain these sources of energy and then proposing new techniques to improve production. In ethanol production, the research is aimed at obtaining genetically modified microorganisms capable of converting the compounds of the cell wall of agricultural waste into fermentable sugars. To produce biodiesel, the oleaginous yeast has been shown to be excellent candidates for the production of lipids that can be used as element for biodiesel production. In Brazil biogas-related research is aimed at obtaining this source of energy from landfills. And as the biogas generation process occurs by anaerobic digestion, the use of mixed cultures of some microbial groups as additives in that production process has shown excellent productivity. This paper aims to show the groups of microorganisms that are being studied for the production of biofuels and how is the Brazilian market in the production of renewable energy sources. |
