Abstract | With robots quickly becoming more prominent in today’s society, they also have to be adapted to human custom in the form of social navigation. In this paper, an extension to the Rapidly-exploring Random Tree (RRT) algorithm was made with weighted areas that allow avoiding these places if possible. The weighted areas have a weight value between 0 and 1 added to them, and its affect on the performance of the algorithm and the safety of a path was measured using a simulator. The main question of interest is: is extending RRT with weighted areas a good method for avoiding these areas if possible? As will be seen in the paper, extending RRT with weights is a very suitable method for avoiding weighted areas while keeping the performance at a very reasonable level. |
