| Abstract | The bitemporal study of deforestation in the Dominican Republic using remote sensing is the case study on measuring the rate of desertification or loss of woody vegetation in the Dominican Republic. The problem is acute and fundamental, although it seems that few have noticed the size of the danger that entails the loss of vegetation. How ruthless and irrational as forests have been reduced from the Dominican Republic puts us in a particularly dire situation, and this study provides accurate data that will define the appropriate development policies, so that investments and actions of forest stocking, are conducted in a timely manner in the precise areas. The analysis of data obtained in this investigation using satellite images acquired through techniques of modern communication known as sensing or remote sensing allow us to obtain the historical data of deforestation, for this case computed over a period of fifteen years (1985-2000), which serve as supports for accurately identifying and analyzing digital satellite imagery. With these results we can easily establish and achieve bitemporal comparing actual percentages express the behavior of the forest. |
