| Abstract | Students as agents of change is expected to have a positive self-concept. Positive self-concept in students can be made by increasing religiosity through peer-group (significant other). Islamic mentoring is one of the most program that can be done. Self-concept is a person's perception of himself, which was formed through the perception and interpretation of one's experience (Shavelson, Hubner, & Stanton, 1976). Islamic mentoring is one of the Islamic education method which held regularly every week in a particular curriculum (Knight, 2010). This study used a quasi-experimental design which aim to investigate the influence of Islamic mentoring to student self-concept change. The study involved 367 Moslem students were taken data twice, pretest and posttest. Pretest was given before the subject follow the Islamic mentoring and posttest administered after subjects followed Islamic mentoring. The sampling technique which used in this study is incidental sampling. The data obtained were analyzed by pairedsample t test. Measuring instrument which used were self-concept scale that adopted from Marsh (1992). This scale measures 7 types of self-concept, that is : academic self-concept, problem-solving, spirituality, honesty, parent-relation, emotional, and general self-concept. Data Results showed there is an influence of Islamic mentoring to changing academic self-concept (r = 0.23), spiritual (r = 0.47), honesty (0.19), parentrelation (r = 0.15), and general self-concept (r = 0.61) on student. Suggestion for further research in Islamic mentoring should be use experimental design with tighter control to get better internal validity. |
