| Abstract | The study region is located at 29°00' LS and 68°34' LW in the Sierras Pampeanas of La Rioja Province, Argentina. The stratigraphy is composed of a Precambrian metamorphic basement, Paleozoic, mesozoic and cenozoic rocks, and form the Umango Complex. Digital image processing techniques were used with Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) and Enhanced Thematic Mapper (ETM) data to enhance lithologies and to make a geological map. ASTER and ETM imagery was combined into a geographic information system; and was integrated in order to establish the relationship with a geological and structural map. The ASTER and ETM imagery of Sierra de Umango shows that several important lithological groups can be mapped in well exposed areas by using several spectral-matching techniques. Granites, amphibolites and marbles were distinguished in the Umango Complex. |
