| Abstract | In this dissertation we analyze the spatial distribution of crime occurrences committed by young offenders in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2016 and 2017, considering the effect of spatial distribution on the identification of crime patterns. Firstly, we considered information on Integrated Public Security Circumscription areas (CISP) as units of spatial analysis in the city and secondly we considered information on neighborhoods of the municipality. We carried out an exploratory spatial analysis of areal data as well as inferential spatial analysis considering conditional autoregressive (CAR) models. The analyses indicate the presence of spatial dependence in crime incidence among young offenders. Studies like this help monitoring such occurrences, providing information for public policy action, as for example minimizing crime among teenagers. |
