| Abstract | The use of packet switching base networks allows transmission of different types of applications, enabling reduced costs and the emergence of new services and data. In this context, the technology of voice over IP (VoIP) follows an upward trend, mainly due to the low cost. However, IP networks are based on a best effort policy, and as a result, new problems arise in applications with real-time characteristics, such as VoIP technology. For this reason, it becomes necessary to analyze and evaluate the quality of service of this kind. In order to evaluate the quality of a voice over IP call, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) present in their recommendations, methods for assessing quality of voice systems. Due to the wide acceptance by the scientific community, stand out for this job the Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality (PESQ), described in ITU-T Recommendation P.862, an intrusive method that makes the perceptual analysis, and EMODEL, described in ITU-T recommendation G.107, which is a nonintrusive method, which uses the network parameters to provide estimates of call quality. This work had as main objective, the implementation and application of E-MODEL according to ITU-T G.107, proposing a model that guarantees a good correlation between their estimates of quality assessment and estimates of quality assessment of PESQ. The performance evaluation of the proposed model has been implemented through the methodology described in ITU-T recommendation P.564 aimed at correlation analysis, error analysis, and analysis of false positive / negative, among the estimates of quality assessment of E -MODEL and PESQ. The model showed encouraging results with regard to performance analysis, especially in error analysis. The method is already implemented in the non-intrusive probes of ArQoS R © system from PTInovacao. This system is being used in Portugal Telecom VoIP network by monitoring traffic RTP (Real-time Transport Protocol) and other important protocols for the analysis of network quality. |
