| Abstract | Two synods held in England in 786 are known by a report of George of Ostia addressed to Pope Hadrian I. It contains a list of twenty canons, the layout and content of which present very elaborate reflections on the life of the Church and social organization and on the relations between Rome, the Anglo-Saxon Church and the Frankish Church . Alcuin participated in these councils and was certainly involved in the drafting of these canons and the report of Georges d'Ostie. Important issues in Alcuin's works can be recognized, especially references to the works of Gregory the Great and the inspiration of the Holy Pope in the vision of the Church. |
