| Abstract | According to the World Health Organization (WHO) cardiovascular diseases are among the most frequent causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Most of the studies that exist in relation to sickness absence focus primarily on ischemic heart disease, leaving aside other chronic and limiting conditions as heart failure. The objective of this research was to determine the relationship between heart failure of ischemic etiology and work disability in patients of a cardiologic center in the city of Cali in the period July 2014 to June 2016. A correlational descriptive study was conducted with the information in a database of 123 workers over 18 years of age, diagnosed with heart failure (ischemic and non-ischemic) to which were given work inability. The study showed that 79.7% of workers with heart failure had no sickness absence compared with 20.3% who had it. At examining the relationship between heart failure and prevalence of sickness absence it was found that the group of non-ischemic heart failure had a higher prevalence (30%) than the ischemic group (17.2%). Based on the results, it was concluded that the study failed to demonstrate any statistical relationship between heart failure of ischemic etiology and work inability. |
