| Abstract | Computed tomography as a simulation is useful to find white spots to be irradiated and critic organs, in order to prepare treatment dosage by using appropriate immobilizers. A descriptive study was conducted of a series of influencing factors, related to simulations of head and neck cancer. A study was made of all patients simulated with head and neck cancer from August 2015 to January 2016, in Hospital Carlos Andrade Marín; hence, 18 patients of both sexes with no specific age. Regarding simulation, the most important thing was immobilization systems used, mostly thermoplastic masks and a tongue depressor as an additional device, because not reproducibility of patient positioning could be got, and risk organs could be affected with a permanent damage. As additional information, cancer type was investigated by the location in the head and neck, with the non-Hodgkin lymphoma being the most commonly found. Consideration should be also given to benefits of conducting a control of quality to the CAT Simulator, in the sense that errors are prevented. It was concluded that the hypothesis is affirmative, based on what was formerly stated, and the general investigation objective was complied. No sufficient information is available on investigations or articles related to simulations in radiotherapy 3D CRT. |
