| Abstract | We evaluated the performance of an organic filter using parchment from coffee beans as a filter material in the primary treatment of wastewater from the hydraulic separation and peeling of the coffee berries (ARC). For every 2000 L of filtered ARC, measurements were taken for both influent and effluent of the organic filters for electrical conductivity (EC) and the potential hydrogen (pH), as well as quantification of concentrations of total solids (TS), total dissolved solids (TDS), total suspended solids (TSS), total fixed solids (TFS) total volatile solids (TVS), total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), potassium (K) and sodium (Na). We carried out 12 filtrations of raw ARC to calculate the effluent concentration in relation to the influent concentration. According to the results obtained, it was concluded that the filter consisting of parchment coffee beans was not efficient in the removal of EC, TS, TDS, TSP, TVS, TN, TP, K, and even contributed to the increase in effluent concentrations of these variables, however, it was relatively efficient in removing TSS and Na, with an average removal of 60% and 30% respectively. |
