Abstract	The annual rate of adolescents’ suicide of Korea is three times higher than Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member nations, which raises awareness of influential factors on adolescents’ suicidal ideation and behavior. Thus this study explored the effects of interpersonal relationship stress of adolescents on suicidal ideation and examined the moderating role of self-esteem in the relationship between interpersonal relationship stress and suicidal ideation. Data drawn from ‘the 2013 Survey on Child Youth Mental Health’ conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute. The data of 2,985 secondary school students aged 14 to 19 were analyzed by logistic regression. One of primary findings was that of demographic factors, gender and family’s economic condition significantly influenced suicidal ideation. Second, both stress that the family relationship generated and stress friend relationship made showed a significantly positive effect on suicidal ideation. Third, self-esteem was low but played a vital moderating role in the relationship between the pressure of the friend relationship and suicidal ideation. Based on these findings, implications suggest that family, school, and community need to be responsive to adolescents’ interpersonal relationship stress, and both suicide prevention program and clinical intervention should be developed.
