| Abstract | The Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (COPD) is an incapacitating, slowly and progressive disease, characterized by limitation of the aerial flow. It is sub-divided into two different pathologies: the chronic bronchitis and the lung emphysema that result in the reduction of the quality of life. That pathology has been contributing to elevate the morbidity causes and mortality among the chronic diseases in the world and in Brazil. The quality of life concerns the limitation degree and discomfort caused by certain disease. It is a concept that brings with itself high subjectivity load with social and cultural variables. Generic and specific instruments are used for measuring the quality of life of the bearers of that disease. This study was aimed evaluating the quality of life of bearers of COPD, through the use of two instruments of quality of life: a generic and a specific questionnaire to measure the quality of life. It is a descriptive study, in the modality cases series, where the selected group was constituted by 21 bearers of COPD with the use of the generic questionnaire SF-36 and another specific one, the SGRQ. The data collection was performed through interviews with application of the two questionnaires for each participant. The results obtained from the SGRQ questionnaire showed that the most attacked domain for that group was of the Symptoms with 13 participants and Total Score with 11 participants. The two other domains: Activity and Impact introduced 10 participants with compromising of the quality of life. The results of the interview and the data obtained from the application of SF-36 and of SGRQ present complementary data, which allowed to know each individual's perception about their quality of life. In this study it could be verified that it is possible to establish comparison among the coming results from SF-36 and from SGRQ, in what refers to the quality of life of the participants. A higher specificity was observed in relation to SGRQ and the application of both questionnaires can be a complementary tool in the evaluation of the quality of individuals' life with COPD. Key-words: Chronicle Obstructive Lung Disease. Quality of Life. Questionnaires. SF36. St. George’s Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ). |
