| Abstract | This paper aims to develop a vision for the NHS in the perspective of 2020. Based on an assessment of the current situation of the health system and in the light of the principles that define a good health system, describes a feasible scenario for health care in Spain based on structural changes affecting finance, equity in access to health care, health system coordination, public – private collaboration, detection and correction of inefficiencies in health care demand and supply, the need for continuous assessment of the system, the change in the model of care focused on the chronicity, the new role of primary care and specialized care, motivation and incentives of health professionals, the growing role of citizens in health care, as recipients of health care but also responsible for their health, and the establishment of priorities through the systematic evaluation of health care decisions. |
