| Abstract | The aim of this abstract is to address issues related to mathematics teaching as an essential tool in in-service teacher training to the understanding of the processes associated to the graduation in Natural Sciences, Biology and Chemistry courses. We tried to understand how the Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Natural Sciences curriculum interact with Mathematics. What is its importance to teachers and students’ opinion and its contributions to the improvement of these future teachers? For this, we probed eight teaching plans of Mathematics fields, carried out seventeen surveys among teachers and sixty with graduating students of two public institutions, Teacher Training Faculty of Mata Sul (Faculdade de Formação de Professores da Mata Sul) – FAMASUL and Federal University of Pampa (Universidade Federal do Pampa) – UNIPAMPA. The results indicate that the emphasis in the organization of Mathematics contents is in the development of content of functions and in calculus discipline, and that, there is a predominance of lectures (expository lessons) and the tendency of assessing through written tests. In the analysis of the questionnaire, while some Mathematics teachers deem themselves apt to run these courses, the students highlight the need of a better understanding from these teachers, from the field to which they propose to be the instrument. |
