| Abstract | In daily medical practice has seen a steady increase in the incidence of cancer, but its diagnosis remains delayed and thus the therapeutic options are limited. When analyzing the possible causes of this situation specifically in Colombia, you may consider several factors such as: lack of patient education regarding warning signs and early consultation, limited access to health services, lack of coverage an important group of the population and a deficit in oncology training during the undergraduate medical and even during graduate. Since education is a fundamental basis for solving the problems of society, strengthen the teaching of oncology to undergraduate medical students will improve the training of general practitioners to optimize primary care of patients with cancer. This is a challenge for the training of general practitioners, which requires review of current curriculum content. Here are some situations and arguments that allow us to understand why a better education and learning oncology improve early detection and early diagnosis of cancer patients, directly affecting the prognosis and quality of life of these analyzes. |
