| Abstract | This study, based on a household survey, contributes to an enhanced understanding about the impact of the global financial crisis (GFC) on migrant household in Bangladesh. The household survey was implemented by collecting data from 217 samples of migrant households from three Upazillas in three Zillas in Bangladesh during July 2010. They are Singair Upazilla under Manikganj Zilla, Joydevpur Upazlill under Gazipur Zilla and Habigonj Sadar Upazilla under Habigonj Zilla. The migrants from Singair upazilla in Manikganj district have destinations in different countries in Middle East. In Joydevpur upazilla in Gazipur district, also the migrants have destinations in Middle Eastern countries. However, Habigonj Sadar upazilla in Habiganj district have migrants destined in the UK. In the survey and FGDs the comparison is made between the pre and post global economic crisis. The period between August 2007 and September 2008 is considered as “Before” and the period between October 2008 and September 2009 is considered as “after”. |
