| Abstract | Relationship between mothers and physicians pertaining to diarrhea in children. Attitudes of mothers are compared with those of physicians. Research is aimed at finding better mechanisms for communication and cure through knowledge of cultural background. Methods included case studies within a constructionist paradigm. Theory sampling strategies were applied for selection of research samples and idea association techniques for analysis of psychological relationships between parent and physician. Extensive interviews with 12 mothers living in underprivileged area called La Batalla II located near Simon Bolivar Ambulatory Health Service west of Barquisemeto, in the state of Lara. Physicians were interviewed. It is concluded that social concepts held by mothers influence curative strategies employed by physicians. Pediatricians concern themselves with mother's attitudes rather than on diagnostic technique despite training. This is cause of friction between the physician and mothers of patients |
