Abstract	The economic growth experienced by the city of Machala following the increase of the banana and shrimp production caused population growth and proliferation of slums with limited access to basic utilities for the good life. The investigation determined the impact of the economic growth of the city in the social develo¬pment of the inhabitants of the slums, for which they gave a brief historical overview of urbanization from (1950) to the present. Materials, and human resources, inductive and deductive methods for the analysis and processing of infor¬mation, with a qualitative approach, yielding results that explain the causes and effects of economic growth of the city and its social impact on the population were used, which allowed a better understanding of the local reality of Machala, knowing the action that generated the study problem and its consequences.
