| Abstract | The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of nitrogen sources with different rates of degradability in diets of dairy cows, using sugarcane as forage, on intake, nutrient digestibility, production and composition and fractions milk protein. Twelve Holstein cows were grouped into three contemporary 4x4 Latin Square, with an experimental period of 21 days, of which the first 14 days for adaptation to the diets and the other for sampling. The cows were fed four isonitrogenous diets ( 157 g CP/kg DM ) with the following main nitrogen sources: a) Control (C) - Soybean meal and low inclusion of urea b) High degradability (AD) – Soybeans meal and high urea content (17.1 g/kg DM), c) Medium degradability (MD) - Raw soybeans d) Low degradability ( BD) - Corn gluten meal . Samples of milk from 18 to 21 day of each experimental period were collected to determine the composition and milk protein fractions. The inclusion of soybean in the diet on partial replacement of soybean meal increased the ether extract intake, reduced digestibility of protein, which resulted in lower milk production and production of milk total solids, compared to cows fed the other diets. In contrast, the partial replacement of soybean meal by urea or corn gluten meal did not affect the digestibility and milk production compared to control. However, cows fed the control diet (soybean meal and low inclusion of urea) produced more crude protein and true protein of milk than cows fed the other diets. Therefore, it can be included 17.1 or 10.2 g / kg DM of urea or corn gluten, respectively, in partial replacement of soybean meal in the diet of dairy cows fed sugarcane as forage without alteration on milk production |
