| Abstract | The problem of deening an eecient procedure to sort the magnets in a circular accelerator is considered. Using a simpliied model of the LHC, we analyze the eeects of random errors on the dynamic aperture. Diierent quality factors are proposed to measure the performances of a given lattice. These quantities are based on the analytical tools of nonlinear maps and normal forms. The correlation between quality factors and dynamic aperture is analyzed and a sorting strategy, based on these indicators of nonlinearity, is proposed. A comparison of the results with a sorting method based on local compensation is given. |
