| Abstract | RESUME: Les soins aux personnes âgees en Centre d’hebergement necessitent plus que jamais un partenariat entre la famille et le personnel soignant. Majoritairement atteinte de troubles cognitifs, cette clientele vulnerable est representee et protegee par sa famille. Or, le developpement d’une relation de partenariat est seme de nombreux obstacles. Cette etude qualitative a pour but d’explorer, selon la mise en commun des perspectives des familles et du personnel soignant, les facteurs influencant le partenariat entre la famille des personnes âgees hebergees et le personnel soignant d’un Centre d’hebergement. Au total, 16 personnes ont participe a l’etude : 11 membres de famille et 5 membres du personnel soignant. Des entrevues individuelles et familiales semi-dirigees ont ete realisees. Les resultats ont demontre que des attitudes d’ouverture, de disponibilite et d’ecoute ainsi qu’une communication efficace facilitent la relation, au meme titre que le partage d’informations utiles sur le resident et la personnalisation de la chambre. Au contraire, le manque de reconnaissance de l’expertise de la famille ainsi que la negation des emotions ressenties par cette derniere entravent la relation. Mais, le facteur le plus important est la difference de perception des deux groupes : celle figee des familles tournee vers le passe versus celle anticipee du personnel soignant tournee vers l’avenir. La perception des familles entraine des attentes irrealistes a l’egard du Centre d’hebergement. Du cote des facteurs organisationnels, l’utilisation de moyens de communication comme des appels telephoniques ou des rencontres interdisciplinaires favorisent les relations, ainsi que la stabilite du personnel soignant. Par contre, la procedure d’admission, c’est-a-dire le manque de preparation a l’hebergement et l’abondance d’informations transmises au moment de l’arrivee font obstacle aux relations. Les horaires rigides imposes par le Centre d’hebergement, le manque de personnel et l’instabilite du personnel soignant restreignent aussi le partenariat. La clarification des roles de ces deux groupes, roles issus de leurs expertises respectives, s’avere necessaire pour installer un partenariat. La mise en commun des connaissances personnelles des familles et de celles plus techniques du personnel soignant est indispensable a la personnalisation des soins a la personne âgee. -- Mot(s) cle(s) en francais : partenariat, famille, personne âgee, soins de longue duree, collaboration, aidants familiaux. -- ABSTRACT: Eldercare in long-term care homes requires more than ever a partnership between family and staff. Predominantly affected by cognitive impairment, this vulnerable clientele is represented and protected by its family. However, the development of a partnership relationship is hindered by many obstacles. The present exploratory qualitative study aims at investigating, by sharing perspectives of families and carers, factors affecting the development of an effective partnership between the family of elderly people residing in a long-term care home and the nursing staff. In total, 16 people participated in the study: 11 family members and 5 nursing staff workers. Semi-structured individual and family interviews were conducted. The results showed that attitudes of openness, availability and listening, as well as effective communication facilitate the relationship, as well as the personalization of the room, and the sharing of useful information about the resident. Lake of recognition about the expertise of the family and denial of the emotions felt by the latter hinders the relationship. But the biggest obstacle is the difference in perceptions of the two groups: the fixed perception of the family based in the past, versus the anticipatory perception of the nursing staff forecasting the future. The perception of families leads to unrealistic expectations vis-a-vis the care center. In terms of organizational factors, the use of communication tools such as phone calls or interdisciplinary meetings foster relations, as well as the stability of the nursing staff. On the other hand, the admission procedure, namely, the lack of preparation to housing and the abundance of information transmitted on arrival hinder relations. The rigid schedules imposed by the care center, staff shortages and frequently changing nursing staff also hamper the partnership. Clarification of the roles of these two groups, roles resulting from their respective expertise, is necessary to install a partnership.
