Abstract	This paper aims to evaluate the infiltration in soils from a region with gneissic rocks of the Bacao Metamorphic Complex (MG). We intend either to relate the infiltration pattern with hydraulic and physical soil properties, previously presented in other papers. Infiltration essays were carried out with the dye Brilliant Blue FCF and with sodium chloride. The flow patterns ranged from homogeneous through the soil matrix (piston flow) to macropore flow with medium interaction. The data show a large matrix permeability, strongly conditioned by vertical macropores, especially by grass roots in the A horizon. Biocavities (by ants and termites) are equally important, especially in the B horizon. Previous studies were confirmed, showing that the infiltration is higher on noses than on hollows. The used methods can be considered reliable to evaluate the velocity and flow pattern in the unsaturated zone of these tropical soils.
