| Abstract | This work concerns the aspect of industrial development and its relation to the environment. industries in a general way, generate emanatrons and solid residues due to industrial processes that, if not treated, supervised and placed in propper ways could damage the hydric resources and public health. The studied area ¡s consisted of an approximate extension of 30 km2, delimited by the Tamanduateí river basin, at the county of santo André. lt ¡s a region of great industrial density developed along that river. The urban and industrial activities are the greatest generating sources of solid residues. The industries of that area, for their intrinsic characteristics, generates great ¡mpacts on the environment, by the production of class land ll residues and emanations. lt was observed that 4oo/o of the industries dispose improperly their residues in various ways. The most used alternative is the residues valorization, adopted by 80% of the companies that were visited. Ten percent of the companies adopted the despatch of the residues to the cement furnaces and incinerators, and 50o/o recycle the generated residues. To improve the present situation, it ìs necessery to draw the attention of the companies, in order to make them invest in modern technologies as well as the public authorities to make efforts to establish political priorities to protect the environment. The relation between industries and environment could be harmonious, but some social, political and economical changes must be made. |
