| Abstract | Due to the embryo/fetus radiosensitivity the accurate estimation of the absorbed dose distribution in the abdominal area is an additional problem caused by the exposure of pregnant women to ionizing radiation in medical applications. Exposure Computational Models (ECMs) are used to estimate the values of absorbed dose in an exposed individual by means of Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. To characterize an ECM with satisfaying dosimetric results, the Grupo de Dosimetria Numerica (GDN) is using, mainly, voxel phantoms coupled to a well referenced MC code, and simulators emitting photons. In this ECMs, the phantoms were predominantly constructed from stacks of magnetic resonance images or computed tomography (obtained from scans of real patients), or from 3D modeling techniques. The phantom presented in this work departed from virtual primary data. For this, 3D objects in several formats (*.obj, *.fbx, etc.) were acquired for anatomical representation of a nonpregnant adult. To construct the fetal representation, the technique called Poly Modeling was used in the 2015 version of the program Autodesk 3ds Max. The phantom named MARIA (Modelo Antropomórfico para dosimetria das Radiações Ionizantes em Adultas) were voxelized using the software Digital Image Processing (DIP) and coupled to the EGSnrc MC code. In order to complete the presented ECM in this work, algorithms of sources were used for radiodiagnostic, already developed by the GDN, to simulate the most frequent examinations in pregnant women. The dosimetric results were compared with similar results obtained with the software CALDose_X. |
