| Abstract | Low productivity and large production oscillations of bean crops are attributed to its high sensibility to water deficits during spring-summer seasons, usually the period of higher hydric consumption. The supplemental irrigation is an efficient strategy to achieve and sustain the high yields. It has been performed in beans cropped area of the Planalto Medio, using the central-pivot system and being responsible for 30% of the local beans crop yield. The purpose of this work was to evaluate the beans yields on supplemental irrigation, quantifying the water demand, the relative grain yields at “safra” and “safrinha” season during the period 19852004 and to estimate the economic viability of the central-pivot irrigation system on variable economic conditions for a Planalto Medio farm in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. Under the specific conditions used in this study, the results allow to conclude that supplemental irrigation was required at all years of the evaluation period, in variable average irrigation depth from 140 to 300 mm/year, at “safra” season, and from 130 to 270 mm/year, at “safrinha” season. The water deficits cause up to 39% in losses to the annual crop yields. But irrigated beans has proven to be an economically viable activity, generating a net income of R$ 1.534,30 ha year and demonstrating that the investment in irrigation can be highly attractive, with 1 93 , 1793 $ − = ha R VPL , % 88 , 11 = TIR and 36 , 1 / = C B . By the select sceneries risk profile get by the probability distribution of the Internal Rate of Return occurrence, the fluctuation of the irrigation equipment useful life and the alteration on electric energy duties of the consumer unit didn't generate risk to the economical viability of beans irrigation; the regulation of the water use encashment for water duty consum at R$ 0,02 get a economic viability risk for 4,09 % and water duty at R$ 0,04 cames the project 100 % no viable. The changes in product prices get a no viable risk for 1,1 % and the variation on irrigation grain yields give a 30,85 % risk at the infeasibility of the beans irrigation practice. |
