| Abstract | Since 1999 the fight against doping articulates itself on an institutional apparatus that regulates and coordinates international efforts on this matter, thus constituting an international prohibition regime. Its normative construction has been noted for its inconsistency, but more recently, the legitimacy crisis it is currently going through has gained relevance boosted by different media scandals occurred during the last decade. The institutional answer to that has been to harden doping sanctions and to intensify surveillance. By making use of qualitative interviews and bibliographic review, this work seeks to explore the roots of the current situation by analyzing the composition of the international antidoping regime's vision. Results suggest that the conceptions of sport, health and nature that anti-doping defend are not suited for the contemporary reality of sport, which significantly hinders its capability to implement legitimizing policies. |
