Abstract | Integrity constraints play a critical role in a logical database design in which data dependencies are of more interest. One of the most important data dependencies is the functional dependency in relational databases, representing the dependency relationships among attribute values in a relation. We will examine the two most popular frameworks for extending classical Functional Dependencies into Fuzzy Functional Dependencies. We will examine some of the extensions made to the classical relational data model that attempt to tackle the challenges of incorporating fuzzy logic. While the frameworks’ foundational premises are different, the similarities are so strong, that a unification model may emerge in the future. |
