Abstract	The slave labor was constituted as one of the major form of labor in the Rio Grande of Sao Pedro in the nineteenth century, even in predominantly agropastoral areas including those of little economic scale. In this work we focus on a comparative examination of the ownership of captives between two regions of modest agropastoral production: the villages of Cacapava and Sao Borja. The period of analysis is between the years 1820 and 1850. It is highlighted the spread of the slave property by the social network, and its concentration degree between the several socioeconomic strata. Furthermore, it is confronted the results with studies to other Brazilian areas.
