Abstract	This article tries to show that the understanding of the first Cartesian proof of the existence of God seems to depend on (i) the understanding of the finitude of Ego and (ii) on the cognitive value of doubt and desire. The first proof cannot be correctly understood simply assuming that some have the concept of «l’infini» as object of thought, while others have the concept of «l’indefini» as object of imagination.
