| Abstract | This doctoral thesis examines the integration of mindfulness practices aimed at the enhancement of orgasmic functioning in women, and help for women experiencing difficulty in attaining orgasm. Such techniques of mindfulness are widely used in treating a number of troubles linked to psychopathologies, but has only been recently introduced in the treatment of female sexual dysfunction. In this light, we explored the link between mindfulness capacities and ability to achieve orgasm over the course of several studies. We devised a questionnaire specifically aimed at evaluating mindfulness capacities of women during dyadic sexual activities. We also created a self-treatment protocol based on mindfulness practices and cognitive behavioral sex-therapy techniques aimed at facilitating the achievement of female orgasm. We compared this treatment with the same self-treatment protocol not using mindfulness strategies. In order to evaluate the utility of integrating mindfulness techniques in the treatment of women with difficulties achieving orgasm, both self-treatments were tested on a sample of 101 women from a random sample, 48 of whom identified themselves as suffering from inability to achieve orgasm. |
