| Abstract | The aim of this work was to contribute to the knowledge of the livestock systems associated to the epidemiologic conditions of foot and mouth disease (FMD), since this viral disease cause high economic loses to the cattle industry in South America. Consequently, some countries have initiated the creation of FMD free zones through the application of the characterization methodology. The data was obtained from de control and eradication program carried out by Servicio Autonomo de Sanidad Agropecuaria of Lara sate, for 2006. The parishes were selected on this basis of the bovine population density, and 14 were included, with low (4), medium (3), high (5), and very high (2). FMD cases occurred at Las Mercedes and Tamaca parishes. Using the multiple regression linear model, it was determined that the variables vaccination coverage for bovines, farms, and repeatability by farms did not show statistical association with the variable FMD cases (P>0.05). Regarding to livestock systems associated to the FMD conditions, 12 parishes showed secondary endemic condition, so it is recommended to strength the surveillance epidemiological systems in these parishes. |
