Abstract In the Traces of the Metaphor: An Approximation towards Translation of Literary Metaphor from Cultural Presuppositions Covadonga G. FOUCES GONZALEZ In this article we propose an approximation towards the problems in translation that the metaphor poses to the literary translator. Our work intends to make evident the fact that facing the translation of the metaphor means trying to understand the function of this figure within both the culture of origin and the target culture. In a conceptual framework that considers the metaphor to be a structure constituted by the imaginary, what is truly important is that we represent the world through this trope. As such, it is the way that a culture sees itself and compares itself to other cultures. Therefore, if a metaphor is the image through which a culture is constructed in respect to itself and in respect to the Other, overcoming two images is a difficult task of perspectives and of continuous re-elaborations of meaning which becomes the job of the literary translator.
