| Abstract | The purpose of the paper is to examine how terrorist attacks aff ect tourist traffi c and the selection of tourist destinations. A variety of materials were used in the study including reports on terrorism and tourism. Materials available from key institutions that examine public opinion were also quite helpful. In addition, a survey was conducted on how tourists perceive selected destinations in the context of terrorism. Some of the survey questions provided to respondents in Poland and abroad concerned issues related to Poland. It is important to note that the impact of terrorism on tourism is not limited to tourism itself, but can aff ect an array of other areas of the economy. Finally, the fact that tourist traffi c continues to grow does not imply that terrorism is not a relevant factor in the growth of tourist traffi c. On a global scale, tourist traffi c is largely independent of terrorist attacks characterized by a specifi c location – i.e. country or city. However, terrorist attacks do aff ect tourist traffi c on a country level. The length of the decline in tourist traffi c depends on a number of factors including the repetitiveness of attacks.
