| Abstract | Based on the literature, studies have shown there exist confusion created between diverse people of interest and background in trying to understand and defining financial exploitation. A complexity of perception, understanding and conceptions of what is regarded as financial exploitation between multiple discipline and professionals proven to be one of the challenges in identifying financial exploitation in the first place. This confusion lead to difficulties in detection and reporting the incidents within the society, particularly in family environments. For the purpose of this study, views from older persons will be sought to understand the meaning they put to financial exploitation, their experience of financial exploitation incidents within family settings and the challenges that they face in detection and disclosure of such incidents. The framework for sampling design in the study include both older persons in community dwelling and institutionalised setting in Malaysia. The findings of this study will be helpful for researchers to understand financial exploitation of older persons phenomenon from the perspectives of older Malaysians. This study aim to contribute to the body of knowledge in discovering the conceptualization of Malaysian older persons’ and how it differs from the view of the professionals with regard to elder financial exploitation in family setting. |
