| Abstract | Following the fast developments that have been taking place in fiber-optic (FO) sensing technology, commercial FO accelerometers are just now reaching the market. Solutions based on Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) technology are the ones that show the greater potential of responding to market demands for FO accelerometers, driven, in part, by some of the valuable characteristics of FO sensors, such as immunity to electromagnetic fields as well as remote sensing and large multiplexing capabilities. In this paper, we present the design and test results of a temperature-compensated FBG accelerometer. The signal conditioning unit, specially designed to this accelerometer is also presented. Accelerometer dimensions are 21 x 21 x 13 mm. Design is modular, such that three units can be combined to measure tri-axial acceleration. |
