| Abstract | This work tries to deal with some of the distinctive features in the representations of political violence in contemporary fiction written in basque language. Considering the fact that in basque society, as in every society, there is a conflict between the different memories of violence according to the different political perspectives, this paper aims to illustrate how issues such as the categories of victim and perpetrator (whose distinction is not always clear) or the origins of political violence have been articulated in two contemporary basque novels: Soinujolearen semea by Bernardo Atxaga and Antzararen bidea by Jokin Munoz. The author argues that these novels present two different, though not incompatible, ways of fictionalization of violence and the duty of memory |
