Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with Central Notification, Procurement and Distribution of Organs and Tissues of Santa Catarina (CNCDO / SC) data. Corneal transplantation in 2009 was analyzed. The frequency distribution of following variables was analyzed: age, color, sex, region , type of transplantation, disease, spend time in queue, type of emergency, payment sources. Association was tested between payment source and spend time in queue using chi-square test and Mann Whitney test when appropriated. The data was analyzed using Stata version 9.0. Results: A total of 411 corneal transplantations in 2009 in Santa Catarina were performed. The mean age of patients was 44.73 years (SD = 19.14), 55.23% were male and 54% were white. Of the total 99% of transplantations were penetrating method. From the total number of transplantations, 57% had SUS as the paying source. The average of time spent in the queue was 617 days, and there were significant differences among paying sources, with SUS 728 days (SD = 639), health insurance with 502 days (SD = 411) and private system with 438 days (SD = 454). Keratoconus was the main indication for corneal transplantation with 43.5% of total nominations. Conclusion: The waiting time was different among the paying sources.
