| Abstract | PALABRAS CLAVE: Investigacion traslacional, repositorio biomedico, web semantica, ontologia, integracion semantica RESUMEN ESPANOL: El trabajo de esta tesis ha estado enfocado principalmente a la investigacion de soluciones al problema de relacionar repositorios de informacion biomedica en la investigacion traslacional. La investigacion traslacional se define como la aplicacion de resultados de investigaciones biomedicas basicas a nivel clinico. Asi, se ha definido una metodologia de integracion de repositorios de informacion biomedica a traves del uso de las tecnologias de la Web semantica para generar un repositorio semantico integrado. Este repositorio generado contiene el conocimiento y la informacion asociados a los repositorios fuente integrados. Por otro lado, se ha definido un entorno de gestion y explotacion semantico del repositorio semantico integrado. Este sistema se ha disenado tanto para facilitar a medicos y biologos consultar dicho repositorio integrado, como a aplicaciones autonomas, en la investigacion traslacional. Asi, se pueden desarrollar sistemas mas avanzados que asistan a investigadores en tareas de analisis, busqueda y comparacion de informacion. ENGLISH SUMMARY: This thesis is focused on the research of solutions to the problem of linking biomedical information repositories in translational research. Translational research is defined as the application of basic biomedical research results at clinical level. Thus, a methodology was defined for integrating biomedical information repositories using semantic Web technologies. As a result of such methodology an integrated semantic repository is created. This repository contains the knowledge and the information related to the integrated source repositories. Moreover, a system was designed and developed to exploit and manage the integrated semantic repository. This system is designed both to allow physicians and biologists consult the integrated repository, as an autonomous applications in translational research. Thus, third-party systems can exploit the integrated semantic repository to develop more advanced tools to assist researchers in analyzing, searching and comparing biomedical information. |
