| Abstract | The paper evaluates the degree to which agri-environmental payments (AE payments) have been obtained and used by farmers in the Małopolskie Voivodeship in 2004–2014 based on data provided by the Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture (ARMA). The analysis showed that although in 2004–2006 the Małopolskie Voivodeship farmers showed little interest in the AE payments (2% of beneficiaries of single area payments), in 2007–2013 such interest rose (5% of SAP beneficiaries). At the same time amounts paid for financing environmentally friendly practices grew increasingly in the region from PLN 2.7m in 2004 to PLN 33.6m in 2014. In the Małopolskie Voivodeship the percentage of SAP beneficiaries applying for agri-environmental payments was conditional on the share of farms of an area below 5 ha of UAAin the area structure, the share of land in a poor agricultural condition and the agriculture’s organizational intensity. In regions where those factors were more beneficial, farmers were more actively implementing AE payments, clearly favoring package 1. “Sustainable farming and package” and package 8. “Water and soil protection” which allow engagement in relatively intensive farming production. Generally in the region of Małopolska farmers favored package 2. Organic farming, package 3. “Extensive permanent grasslands” and package 8. “Water and soil protection” due to existing natural conditions, traditions in farming production and economic reasons. |
