| Abstract | The article deals with the history of the construction of a rural and industrial landscape linked to rice farming, stock-breeding, extraction of sand and other uses that coexist and conflict along the river Paraiba do Sul in Sao Paulo their portion. The works that have turned this into a productive space environment were conducted by the Office of the Paraiba Valley of the Department of Water and Power, that since the creation of the agency in 1951 built and maintains a system of dykes, polders, associated with an extensive project to use hydroelectric the paulista zone of Paraiba do Sul River basin, however, the region is known due to the industrial park there graduated from the last years of the nineteenth century. The aim of this paper is to report the results of an interdisciplinary research on the uses of the floodplain of the middle Rio Paraiba do Sul Search to characterize the floodplain as a segment of the industrial landscape of the Vale do Paraiba region, marked by the extension and exuberance of the slopes of the mountains, sea and Mantiqueira, and visual vehemence of the great traditional manufacturing clusters |
