| Abstract | This paper takes a critical look at the enormous amount of media coverage dedicated to the concept of dyslexia in recent years. It examines the "assumption of specificity" which is inextricably linked with the concept of dyslexia and discusses its consequences regarding the larger issue of poor readers. It also points out some problems with the widespread view that poor readers who show high intelligence form a cognitively and neurologically different group (the dyslexic group). |
